should i get a credit card?

so, i'm 26 years old, never had a credit card before. my parent refuses to add me as an authorized user on their card. i do not have an income beyond student loans (if those count) and i need money to pay for my textbooks because my loans are not enough to cover them. i'm located in the usa if that's needed information.

would it be a bad idea to get a student credit card to pay for my textbooks even though there's a very low chance i could pay off what i borrow until after i graduate?
