Food disappears?

I have a habit of stashing items in open containers or just on top of furniture and such. I remember leaving like 5 MREs next to the computer in the main room and one day they just disappeared. Same happened to 5-8 potatoes I left in the plastic container in the kitchen. I have food spoilage disabled and I only finished the first week today. Is this a bug or is this intentional stuff??? If it is intentional, what's the explanation? No other items I left in the open disappeared, except for food. I'm not even salty, I'm just curious.
