Expansion Joint for drainage

I had a patio poured about a year and a half ago. I have a low spot that water pools in anytime it rains. The contractor that poured it just wants to cut the control joint all the way through in that area. Is this an acceptable solution? I am concerned especially in the winter if water gets under the patio that it will cause freezing issues. Thanks in advance!
