Baxter park

Hi! I will be doing a road trip through Maine to go to Acadia. On my way back, I wanted to stop into Baxter. The views look amazing. However, it seems that most places available to stay would be about a 2 hour drive out. Does this seem accurate? I was looking on Airbnb.

Is the park worth visiting or any easier places with similar environments you would recommend instead? I am an avid hiker on the western coast.
