Lord Sydenham urges calm and fairness ahead of General Election

:mhopnews: Opinion Piece

##FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Lord Sydenham has today called for peace, unity, and concord as more than 50-million British citizens prepare to vote at the upcoming General Election.

"We must ensure this is a fair and respectful campaign, and all sides are given their say before the people," Sydenham said.

Our right to vote is a modern day privilege, and should be treated with the sanctity as if each citizen were king or ruler. Such is the power of the democratic vote under our constitution. Sydenham says, "Power should not be exercised whimsically".

To promote calm and fairness, Lord Sydenham has asked that all candidates abide by the rules set down by the electoral authorities, afford each of his opponents an adequate hearing, and resort to no sly tricks or deceit in the campaign.

By keeping a measured and modest attitude this General Election, each candidate will be giving our democratic process the respect it deserves. From the voting public, Lord Sydenham has called for calm and deep thought in selecting the best candidates to represent local constituencies.

Thank you,

Lord Sydenham
