My narcissistic ex is in the same school as me and I’m dying here
My ex was BAD, he put me through 3 years of pretty much hell and I was such a shell of a person when I came out of that at 22. It’s been about 2.5 years since we broke up, and I’m honestly only just really growing into who I am, but seeing him sends me down a spiral for a good few days.
The problem is, we go to the same uni for the same course in a very, very small campus. When I realised how bad the relationship had been and how much abuse there was, I went to the uni and asked for help and reported him for all the abuse and SA. What followed was a year of waiting as he was off on a gap year and they couldn’t do anything, and then 6 months of faffing about with the course leads, the uni’s safeguarding team, and the police.
Unsurprisingly, there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute anything so the police dropped it (they did say he’d clearly been abusive and that they wished they could prosecute the SA, they just didn’t have a law they could put it under as it was kinda stealthing but not quite? I dunno, the officer said it should be illegal, but without it having been used successfully in trial before, they couldn’t help now), and the uni also decided to let him stay. Which is insane because he admitted to coming to classes high and said he wanted to kill patients (we’re in a STEM/healthcare postgrad course), but whatever.
They said they’d keep him away from me, and they have so far! The campus police put me on their radar and gave me a special alarm, so even though I live just off campus, I can get help if I need it (which in my HUMBLE opinion shows that people think he’s dangerous/unhinged, because that’s a fair bit of effort for them, but oh well).
The problem is that now we’ve been put onto a project together in a month. I just got told today by the project lead, even though I BEGGED for the uni to make sure we weren’t placed together and was assured we’d be on different projects.
I have exams in 2 weeks, if I fail them then I’ll be in his class full time so that isn’t an option. I can’t afford to take a year out, but holy god, this is awful. I can’t escape him as the campus is tiny, and now this has cropped up and I’ll need to spend this week chasing the relevant people and pleading my case to get moved to a different project, and as the welfare team aren’t working this week, I’ll have to go into details about the situation and try and process that somehow (and do it all without my therapist as she’s got 2 weeks annual leave at the moment).
I’m so mad, and sad, and stressed 😭 I just want to pass my exams and get out of here, the welfare team literally told me that I just need to move to a different city as soon as possible to fix the situation and it just feels like SUCH a fucked situation, why is this on me to fix when he’s the one who messed up?
