History HL Americas Question

Hello all, M25 here. I am concerned with the texts my teacher has prescribed our cohort and question their relevance and adherence to the IB curriculum.

Has anyone had their Paper 3 Text be the novel “The Cold War” by John Gaddis? If so, was it at all helpful in hindsight, or do I need to purchase an IB textbook? My teacher says it’s “all you need to know about the Cold War” but I am doubtful of relying my entire HL paper on 1 novel.

Can any teachers and alumni confirm whether this text is valid for studying the Cold War? I understand that it covers all important events, but it is such a short novel and barely touches on central events. Should I purchase an official textbook
