Help! I need to convince a spouse or change my own mind....
tldr; I'm having trouble deciding between the Alesis Nitro Pro and Alesis Strata Core, being someone who has never drummed a day in their life but loves music and played piano growing up and a little guitar.
As the above sentence shows, I love music and want to learn to play drums.
My husband is sort of on board but thinks I'll likely play a bit and then get bored and thinks it will be a waste of money and will either just sit in a corner or we'll eventually sell at a loss. I'm sort of ok with this as I'm a music lover and feel that even I get just enough skill to jam by myself once in a while, I'll be happy. Plus I wouldn't want to get rid of them even if I rarely play. I have 2 guitars and a piano and play all of those (some more sporadically than others) and actually want my house to have insutrments lying around.
Plus my two kids (6 and 8) want to learn to play so I figure it would be cool for all of us to learn together.
So I was ready to spring for a Alesis Nitro Pro. At $600 it was more than what I initially thought edrums cost (I thought they were like $200. Oh to be so naive!). My husband already is a bit annoyed at that price. But then I made the massive mistake of sitting and trying out the Strata Core. OMG what a difference. The sounds are so different and the Strata Core seems and feels more like a drum set, where the Nitro Pro feels like a toy. I feel like I'd have more fun playing the Strata Core and because I'd have more fun, would be more likely to stick to it.
So... as someone who just wants to learn to play but wants it to sound good and be fun: is it ridiculous to go and spend 2K on an edrum set? Should I be smart and practical and go first for the Nitro Pro or is it worth it and smart to go straight for the Strata Core?
I don't think I want the r td 17, used or new. I've heard the difference in sound and prefer the strata core. If there are others that are between 1-2K that you think are comparable, let me know!
