How long baby cry first night

Baby is 8.5 months old and has basically woken up every 1-2 hours since birth with a handful of longer stretches. Naps well (2.5-3 hours a day), but the lack of night time sleep is killing me. We’re trying to break the nurse to sleep habit, but he just won’t transfer to the crib for my husband.

I really don’t want to sleep train but starting to consider it since my parenting is going downhill due to lack of sleep. How long did your baby cry for the first couple nights before they were able to put themselves to sleep?
