Incense Synthesizer Build Question

A build I saw online (at thegamer.com) had the character taking the feral mutation discovery. The description of that discovery says you get benefits when you take a mutagen. Incense Synthesizer loses the mutagens from the base class to get the incense fog. Wouldn't that make the feral mutagen discovery useless for the character?
