Landlord is fixing bathroom, telling me I won't have access to the shower for one week

Landlord Tenant Housing

Hi all,

I'll try to make a long story short here. I moved into my current place in May 2023. I move out next month (May 2025). I've been having a mold issue in our only bathroom since September 2023. My landlord fixed it, but it came back in March of 2024. He has neglected to fix it since then. I have asked him numerous times to fix it as it's getting worse, and his latest excuse was "Regarding bathroom. I decided to remove that back plastic panel and put tiles surrounding to avoid any future problem. But you need to wait till good weather outside. They are going to cut tiles outside." I finally called the city inspector yesterday because I'm fed up with my landlord not fixing things, and I also think he is going to try to blame us and withhold our security deposit because of it. The inspector got a hold of my landlord yesterday and gave him 2 weeks to fix the bathroom. I was then met by this text from my landlord "There is Mold in bathroom that small spot ? City inspector telling me that you told him whole bathroom. So what you want from me to fix ?If I am going to put tiles it will take 1 week and you are not able to use shower. That why I thought when you vacant in May I will fix that. Now I can fix that small are? Let me know your opinion?" Is it legal for me to not have access to my only shower and toilet for a whole week? According to the MN law, I can file an Emergency Tenant Remedies Action if the loss of sanitary facilities occurs, but I'm not exactly sure what that entails.

I'm waiting to hear back from Homeline. Location: Minnesota, USA.

Thanks!
