Mining stations mid/late game, what to do ?

Should I automate the building of bases (which probably include the building of mining) stations or I should continue to build them manually ? Also considering how many asteroids and planets you find in the mid/late game should I just spam building the mining bases through the menu panel or I'm making a mistake ?
