Questions about Sleep
I see my psych in a week or two so not asking for medical advice just some opinions. And will ask her then
I currently have almost no regular sleep schedule. I am studying at the moment and i rarely “need” to attend uni to actually pass things. (I would like to attend more for socialising and improving my adherence to study) hence i have no imposed/required structure that i have usually required to function well. E.g. school or times of employment.
My sleep schedule can range from 2 individual 4-6hr blocks. A single 16hr block or usually a 9-10hr block. I could actually get into bed anytime from 9pm - 6am. Whilst i assume i naturally need like 9hrs sleep. Sleep has always been a very safe place for me to use as a not very helpful coping mechanism. So it’s obviously psychological and mental not just physical.
Enough context…. My questions are: Do you find melatonin helpful? I have used it before but never found it to really solidify a sleep routine, just ease me into a slumber. Is there a difference between supplement type 10-20mg melatonins and the 2-4mg i get prescribed? Do you think this terrible sleep schedule is making my life needlessly hard? I feel like it must be but struggle to change.
