How many IRAs can you legally have? Trying not to mess this up

Okay, so I’ve got one traditional IRA right now, but I’m looking into opening a gold IRA or maybe even a self-directed account for other investments. I just want to make sure I’m not accidentally breaking any IRS rules or setting myself up for a tax nightmare.

I know there are limits to how much you can contribute each year, but what about the number of IRAs you can have? Is there a cap on accounts themselves, or just on the total annual contribution across all of them? Like, could I technically have five different IRAs as long as I don’t go over the yearly limit?

Also, if I do roll over part of an old 401(k) into a new account (maybe one of those precious metals ones), does that count toward the contribution limit? Some of the info online is super vague or buried in IRS speak, and I’d really rather hear how people actually handle this in real life.

Appreciate any clarity from folks who’ve done this before or talked to a financial advisor about it!
