Gestalt Language Processor, sign language and possible Apraxia?!

Advice Needed

My 2.3 year old is minimally speaking (says only 3 words consistently with intent) but has just recently started repeating single words occasionally after we say them and scripting 1 -2 sound/word phrases eg “up up up, down down down”, “uh ohh”, “uh uhh”. These are definitely scripted as he’s saying them in the exact intonation and context as the characters on tv he scripted them from.

It’s been suspected since 20 months that he has child hood apraxia of speech because he gropes/mouths words perfectly and struggles on the odd occasion he tries to say something, unless it’s the scripted words. The kicker is, he communicates over 100 words in sign language (still only using single word signs at a time), he scored above average in his language assessment and seems to be able to mouth single words in the correct context which he does very often, just with no sound.

He sees 2 SLPs, one who’s somewhat knowledgeable in Childhood Apraxia of Speech and the other is experienced with neurodivergent children and different ways their speech may or may not develop. They are both absolutely amazing but we still seem to be stumped as to what’s happening in his beautiful mind. He’s able to read some four letter words and use an AAC device when prompted, it took him 1 therapy session to get the hang of it. We’re not even sure if he truly is a GLP processor because he will randomly say a word in the right context or meaning but then never say that word ever again.

Has anyone else had a little one with similar language/speech pattern? I’m now second guessing his signs, thinking they’re gestalts, but again, they’re just singular word signs. Or could he possibly be at a higher stage of GLP but appear stage 1 because he’s apraxic?

The fact he’s not typically communicating verbally isn’t even my concern. I just want to be able to understand his wants needs, whether that’s through sign or deciphering scripts. A content happy boy is my main priority. Any insight would be amazing. Thank you!
