Help (UNC vs. GTech College Decision)
I am an admitted out of state UNC co '29 student, and I'm deciding between UNC and Georgia Tech (in-state; but after financial aid, financials for both schools are pretty similar).
I currently aspire a career in public health/health law. UNC is amazing for this with both orgs, community, and education (especially if I can get in the HPM program) and GT is quite honestly terrible for health law.
BUT at GT I would major in biomedical engineering (they're #2 in nation). I've talked with GT academic advisors, and all of them respond luke-warm to my health law aspirations. So I've settled that if I go to GT I'll be pursuing a more tech-corporate path. Although it's not what I want right now, I am confident GT's name value in the tech field and insane career prep resources will set me up for a solid career (internship connections at GT are crazy).
However, UNC has more flexibility and is 100x stronger in what I'm most passionate about right now. GT strength is concentrated in engineering and CS (which is a first-year admit only major). So if I end up wanting to change my major (to something non-engineering) at GT, I'm kinda screwed!! I value the strength of a program very highly.
I also visited UNC and did a ton of research, and I believe I'll be happy at UNC. But, I loveee GT more as a school (and location) in general.
I'm leaning UNC under the belief that UNC is a more well-rounded school with good (albeit not as strong as GT) career prep resources and a friendly/open but academically rigorous student body. I would really appreciate if current students can validate/invalidate this.
Any advice? Insights?
