If you think that this day is about the color pink I'm here to tell you that it is not...

In actuality, this day uses the color pink to raise awareness for bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny across the world. 🌍
#
International Day of Pink started in 2007 in Nova Scotia, Canada, when two straight high school students saw a gay student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. 🇨🇦 The two students intervened at the moment, but they also wanted to do more to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying in their school. 🏫

They had the idea of also getting pink shirts and wear them, but they didn't stop there, as a few days later they got almost everyone else at their school to wear pink. 👚 This resulted in an entire school taking a stand and working together to prevent bullying of any type, particularly related to homophobia and transphobia. 🏳️‍🌈

The International Day of Pink campaign has since continued to grow. It has become an international anti-bullying campaign that thrives in schools, workplaces, and communities. 💗

The conversations, awareness, and acceptance that stem from this day are making a real difference in the lives of queer and trans youth. 🏳️‍⚧️

So no, this isn't the day of the color pink, it is a day to wear pink, raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire acceptance. 💞

Happy International Day of Pink! 💖 ⛑️
