Advice, should I change schools as a First Year Teacher?

Teacher Support &/or Advice

Hi. I'm a first year full-time high school history teacher. I graduated college in December 2024 and immediately got hired at a charter school that is 30 min from my house. I have been working for the past 3 months at this charter school and like the school.

However, a job for 2025-2026 has opened up at the school I student taught at which is much closer to my home and is a public school vs a charter school.

I'm very happy at my current school but the school with the open position is my dream school to teach at. I've been mulling over applying to the public school but I'm nervous as I already have a job that I really like even if I have only been here for 3 months.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice and if I could get in trouble if I applied just as a "what-if" at the public school.
