Review of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (250 Ohm) with FiiO K11 DAC/Amp
Alright, so let’s talk about the DT 770 Pro, specifically the 250-ohm version, because that’s where things get interesting. If you’re thinking about picking these up, the first thing I’ll say is you need a good amp and DAC. I tried using the $20 BEHRINGER Stereo HA400 at first, and it was just a disaster. The bass was completely dead, and the sound was flat – definitely not what I expected for the price of these headphones.
Then I switched to the FiiO K11, and the difference was night and day. The DT 770s finally came alive. The soundstage opened up, the bass was punchy and deep, and the highs were clearer. You can really feel the full range of the headphones when paired with a proper amp. The K11 has enough power to handle the 250-ohm impedance without any struggle. If you love bass, these headphones will satisfy you once you get the right gear. It’s deep, controlled, and really impactful, which was a huge improvement over my first experience.
Now, a quick note about the 250-ohm version: the sound quality is good once you have the proper equipment, but I gotta say, the spiral cable that comes with it is a bit annoying. It tangles easily, and it’s just not the most convenient design. Also, I’ve seen a lot of people say there’s little to no difference between the 250-ohm and the 80-ohm versions. Honestly, I can’t test them side by side.
That being said, the DT 770 Pro (250-ohm) is an absolute beast when paired with the right gear. The sound is full and immersive perfect for music. It gets loud without distortion and the clarity is on point. It’s one of those headphones that makes you appreciate how much a good amp can unlock in terms of sound quality.
Overall, if you’re going for the 250-ohm version, be ready to invest another $100-$150 into an amp and DAC to get the most out of it. If you’re on a budget or don’t want to mess with extra equipment, the 80-ohm version might be a better fit. But if you’re all about getting the best sound possible, the 250-ohm version will deliver the goods just make sure you’ve got the right setup to back it up.
