Clamming questions for clammers
Hi. I live mid coast Maine. I live about 30 seconds drive from a popular area where ever day the clammers go to collect clams. I know because it is my daily area to not be bothered and make phone calls or whatever else I need to do.
For the past 9 months I've been looking for work but for one reason or another everything has fallen through and I'm again applying everywhere.
I'd just like to know if I got whatever permit is required in order to collect a few clams every day, would it be enough money to pay for my car payment, and other small bills like my phone.
I know nothing about it really, but I see everyone wearing tall rubber boots and having something to dig shallowly with.
I don't want to take away from anyone who does this here, but I notice that when they go out I can barely see one or two far away in the mud, so I don't think one more person would be too big a deal, though I usually just wave as they pass by and never have had a conversation.
Outside of trying to figure out exactly what I would need for the short window of clamming, I just wonder really what I can expect to earn since that will determine if I think it would be worth it or not.
I sit in my car doing not much of anything most of the time and within a few hours they come and go and I see them again the following day.
Any tips, advice, or information would be greatly appreciated as it could be the solution to me not being able to find a job that I am capable of doing.
