My experienxe: Lap myo on April 4th
This community has helped me so much on the road from diagnosis to surgery, so I’ll give something back to anyone interested! I (30) had my lap myo on April 4th for 2 intramural and one submucosal fibroid. They only got the submucosal one, though, but that should also be the only one causing symptoms. Got to the hospital at 7 am, surgery from 8 am to 12.30 pm. Felt good enough to go home at 5 having peed and eaten but had to wait to see a doctor. No nausea, but I did decline the morphine they offered me. Went home at 9pm. The day after getting home (day 1), I walked 4000 steps and repeated that on day 2. Day 3, 4, and 5 I’ve walked 8000 steps a day. I’ve managed my pain with Tylenol until day 4 when I went off it. I’ve definitely been sore after going off the Tylenol, but I really must say that I’m incredibly surprised at how smooth recovery has been. The incisions are healing very nicely. I took a laxative for the first two days which gave me diarrhea, but that’s cleared up now. The gas pain was pretty bad, but for me it was gone 24 hours after surgery. I was very impressed with and thankful for the very high quality of care that I received from excellent nurses and doctors. I’ll go back to work on Monday the 14th which is a week earlier than planned. Before the surgery, I lifted weights twice a week and walked around 10,000 steps a day. I think that had an effect on my recovery. The only downside is that I woke up during the general anasthesia (which happens for about 5 in every 1,100 patients I think?) but the surgery team noticed and gave me more medicine, so I was completely sedated by the time they actually started surgery. Happy to answer any questions!
