How do you let go of a special interest?

my friends all hate melanie martinez because of her allegations against her even though there is so much evidence proving her innocence, and they all hate me for it. one of my friends is also autistic but he states that if his special interest goes against his values he can stop liking them, anyway to explain how for me its not that simple and i dont want to let it go, or maybe help me have a way to stop having melanie martinez as a special interest?
