He doesn't want to use protection but we not in a relationship

Been seeing him on and off for 14yrs+. Recently he doesn't want to use protection even though I stated I do because it's safer for all of us and no one needs to get hurt. Yet he refuses and says he wants to be able to be more "connected" and he is more 'serious about me' when he doesn't use something at the end of it. what does this mean? Does he really like me or is he just taking me for a fool for his pleasure??? (He use to use all the time but not anymore so I'm confused.) and no I do not want a relationship with him or a child, or a future, just after some fun.
