Are there any stipulations about starting the free trial, canceling before the trial period ends, and then signing up with the student discount?

Id like to try the trial before signing up but not if canceling my trial somehow makes me lose out on the option of the student discount. Has anyone tried doing this who can weigh in?

Also does anyone have any experience with the payment process? It says $10 for first 12 months but I am not sure if it's a monthly charge or if it's like Amazon where you pay for the full year right now.
