To all the players mirror swapping to The Thing

Game Guide

Don't play him like a regular tank. If you're getting destroyed by a thing main, and switch to the thing to counter or ego duel or whatever, you cannot go in the mindset that you're a Frontline tank. That is the trap of his 900hp.

As a Thing main myself, there is nothing easier to handle than a tank who swaps to Thing to challenge me. In most cases I can leave them alone, or play more aggressively because they don't understand how the Thing works.

It may seem like a good idea to be the immovable object the Thing is and stand on point spamming haymakers, but you aren't helping your team in any notable that you couldn't do as a Mag or Strange, who are designed to sit on point and be unkillable.

You CAN, of course, and sometimes you'll need to. But you'll have to do it smartly. Playing corners or near healers is mandatory if you need to brawl it out on point or cart.

That is because the Things value does not come from numbers, it comes from making space and forcing ults. Your giant healthpool is only there to keep you alive long enough to get into the enemies face and force cool downs. A good Thing is not only unkillable, but also annoying.

But on the other hand, you're not expected to stay in danger either. The clobbering king is a big target, there's no getting around that. And if you're going to jump into enemy lines, you're basically gift wrapping them a free kill. That's where his leap comes in. You have 2 charges for a reason. Your influence as a tank stretches as far as your team does. The more space you make, the closer your team can follow you, and the quicker you can jump out of battle, heal up, then jump back in.

Tl;Dr The Thing's health and kit is a trap and I don't think he should be a 1 star hero. Definitely easy to use, but harder to master. Pay attention to your team, and alternate between diving and front lining. Best way to master the Thing is to play him. So stop ego dueling me in ranked games and get some practice in first!
