rivalry heart events between mateo and aideen? (east scarp)

so I've been romancing mateo (literally the loml by the way) and gifting aideen every now and then. I got two heart events in which it seems like they're flirting with one another, and I'm just pulled along for the ride. is the rivalry heart event something you can have an impact on, or is it just to make a new storyline and cause jealousy from the farmer? 😭
