Lock It In: When Will RDR3 Actually Release?

Discussion

5 years ago on an old account, I made a post guessing the release date of Elder Scrolls VI. It’s fun to look back now and see everyone’s predictions, some aging like milk, some surprisingly close (we’ll see).

Now I want to do the same for the next Red Dead. Obviously it’s all speculation, but when the time comes (and it will), it'll be fun to revisit this. I’ll be keeping this account, even if it takes 20 years. I’ll come back comment on some guesses, and who got it right.

Drop your guess (exact year), and if you want, explain why.

My guess: Holiday 2033
Why?

  1. Rockstar’s major releases keep taking longer.
  2. 2033 fits late enough in the next console cycle.
  3. I think the story will follow the Callender brothers, and them meeting the gang mid to late game, with a buildup to the Blackwater Massacre. That means younger versions of the RDR2 characters, and right now the actors are mostly in their 30s/40s, with a fair amount going into thier 50s when mocap starts. So doable.
  4. GTA is Rockstar’s main moneymaker, so it makes sense that it takes longer to develop than Red Dead. That said, I could see Rockstar testing a smaller project or new IP before fully diving into RDR3, which could delay things by a few years.

Yeah, that’s 8.5 years away. Kinda rough. But GTA VI is about to break the internet, and Rockstar will be in an even better position to take their time and perfect RDR3.

Team 2033.
