nervous about dog having steroids for first time

she has a hot spot that looks painful and is swollen. the vet has recommended steroids for pain and swelling. does this seem normal? i don’t want to give her them unless she really needs them..

i’ve unfortunately only been to this vet twice now so i just am unsure on his decision (obv i don’t know more than a vet does) just nervous.
