My experience with Airpods Max / Price to durability ratio is way off

I got my Airpods Max about 3 years ago and a couple days ago they completely broke. All buttons were unresponsive, didn't connect to devices, lights on but nothing playing. I did everything I could to fix them: I cleaned the connectors very gently with alcohol, factory reset 10+ times, the freezer method (iykyk), but nothing worked.

To me, it's pretty crazy that a piece of tech that's almost $600 has a lifespan of 3 years or so. To me, it's surprising that people are willing to buy a product that has that short of a lifespan. Don't get me wrong, I the Airpods Max are a fantastic product, but if I buy something for that expensive, i expect it to last 5 years at least. Maybe this is just me, and my expectations are too high, but I'd like to hear anyone else's thoughts.
