Freeze my Vpet Questions

So I got the Monster Hunter Vpet and when my pet wants to go to sleep, I turn off the lights and let him sleep but when I go to bed I freeze the game so that way I can stay asleep and be ready for my work day. I have had the Vpet for about 3 days and he still hasn't evolved, he just hatched from the egg and still hasn't evolved, did I screw up becuase I froze the game so I can sleep? Or do I have to wait longer for it to evolve?
