8 yo was involved (victim?) of an inappropriate incident at school

NSFWAdvice

I need your kind advice right now. I got a call from my kid's school today. Apparently, there is a kid at school who has been isolating other students in the bathroom and touching them inappropriately. After finding them locked in a bathroom stall together, My kid spoke to their principal about how there had been multiple times when this other student touched them inappropriately. They told the other student "no" and to "stop" but didn't leave the bathroom or say anything because they were afraid of what the other student would do. My kid is going to talk to the school counselor this afternoon about their experience and she is supposed to call me after they are done speaking. I haven't spoken to my kid directly yet.

We are bodies are bodies, and consent is something we all have to give for things like hugs and high-fives kinda family. We teach that only grown-ups can consent to certain things. My kid is curious about their body, and we've talked about how it is normal to want to explore your body, but at this age, it is something that is for them to explore alone in private.

I need to talk to my kid after school today, and I am a puddle. It sounds like this may or may not have been two kids being curious about their bodies thing, and I am worried that my kid is only one of the potentially many kids impacted by this other student. It all feels like it is in this gray area of sexual assault vs. curiosity and it's a mess. It sounds like DFS and the police are involved in another incident involving the other student. But what do I do what should I be asking? They don't teach you this shit in mom school!
