Sleep Apnea as secondary
So, I have a quick question as I have been all over the internet and this thread and so much information has me on overload.
So last year I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have a CPAP.
I also have Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) from extremely large osteophytes that press on my esophagus. My doc states that the bone growth creates a narrowing of the retro pharyngeal space and exerts pressure on the posterior pharnyx producing worsening sleep apnea. I had sleep apnea to some degree for several years but was untreated until it got worse. The sleep apnea itself wouldn’t be SC or a secondary except because of the spine issues.
The DISH and DDD of my cervical spine created these conditions per my doctor. Would that sleep apnea be a secondary?
I’m currently SC for lumbar/ thoracic DDD and with radiculopathy etc.
Doctor- agrees my current SC would cause the cervical issues. Not wanting to poke the bear but I’m at 40% and surgery on my spine is in my future.
Does that make sense?
