Infant with viral rash

Discussion

Has anyone experienced a viral rash with your infant? On Sunday, my 6 month old woke up fussy with a low-grade fever of 100.4 and a rash around her mouth and eyes. I assumed it was teething related and treated the fever with Tylenol and treated the rash as if it were a drool rash. Her fever didn’t return and she had no other symptoms. The rash persisted into Monday and then Tuesday (yesterday) spread down her neck and to her stomach. When it spread we chatted with a friend who is an emergency department doctor who said it looked viral. Her pediatrician was booked so we took her to urgent care who said the same. This morning when she woke up it was much worse and had spread to her back. We were able to get her in with her pediatrician who also initially said she thought it was an allergic reaction but then I mentioned the fever and she agreed that it was viral and said she likely picked up the cold virus somewhere and it didn’t develop into cold symptoms and that the rash is her body’s response to fighting it off. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her, she isn’t itching and is acting herself.

All this to say - those that have experienced a viral rash, how long before it started to improve? We’re on day 4 and it only continues to get worse!
