Portable laptop for game development ($1000 USD max)
Basically, I'm looking for a laptop that I can use to make 2D games (using both pixel art and regular digital art), while also being able to carry it around in a tote or backpack.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1,000 USD (but preferably lower, since this is a birthday gift I'm choosing for myself)
- Are you open to refurbs/used? Unlikely, I'd probably get anxious about the laptop already being broken somehow
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I don't know enough about laptops to answer confidently here, but I assume performance would be highly desirable.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Important; the goal is to have something that can be carried around easily, so something lighter would be great
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Similar to above. As long as I don't have to squint and hold the screen close to my face, a smaller screen/device size would be preferred
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Godot Engine, GraphicsGale, probably FL Studio
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Technically N/A
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Uncertain. I'd probably never use a fingerprint reader or touchpad, I can say that for certain
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm not able to confidently answer parts of the questionnaire, so I'm going to dump more information below in case it ends up changing the answers I get.
-Two habits of mine are having YouTube videos playing in the background while I work and opening a ton of tabs at once (right now I have 20, which is about average for me)
-I don't like leaving electronics plugged in unless I absolutely have to, but I keep my laptop plugged in the entire time I use it because it becomes extremely slow and laggy while it's unplugged and on low battery. I have zero idea how normal this is, but it'd be nice to not have to deal with that.
-I know this is very unlikely, but something that could run CSP and/or Adobe Animate AND has a touchscreen AND fit the other requirements would be really useful. But even if a laptop like that even exists, I'd still like to see what options are out there that don't have those capabilities so I can compare them and decide if the extra stuff is even worth it.
Thank you in advance!
