What PS2 games would you love if significant flaws didn't hamper the experience that they offer?
Red Dead Revolver is number one with a bullet in this category for me. I want to love it so badly but the terrible hit detection and spongy enemies (especially the bosses) makes what could have been such an awesome game a chore to play more often than being enjoyable. This is one of the only video games that I've encountered which makes me hate it while simultaneously appreciating it. Revolver's gameplay may sadly be flawed but its style is stellar... the art design is excellent and the use of licensed music from past western films is one of the coolest creative choices which adds an overwhelming amount of excitement and charm. Overall, I dig the game and would love to see a reimagining with quality of life improvements, refined gameplay, the same linear stage design and same great music.
As an aside, after beating Revolver a while back I ran through Red Dead Redemption 2 for my first time. Red Dead 2 is without question one of the coolest and most gorgeous looking video games that has ever been made but it's also painfully unengaging (outside of a few great sections). I forced myself to play through the main campaign solely to have a fully formed opinion while trying to understand why people rave about it. I was genuinely excited to play this one and really wanted to enjoy the experience but the game never grabbed me; not all games are for everyone.
