Background Check After Layoff, Currently Applying for Positions
Unfortunately, I was caught in the "performance-based" layoffs at Microsoft in January (https://deepseeks.medium.com/how-are-microsofts-january-2025-layoffs-different-for-the-worst-aa454f061315). I am applying to some FAANG companies as well as other large tech companies. If they do a background check, how much information would they be told about my position at Microsoft and the reason for leaving? Could I also be asked to provide a reference from Microsoft?
I emailed HR and I was told:
"If third parties ask for verification of employment, they will only be given dates of employment and job title. Some exceptions apply for requests from government institutions and immigration matters."
Ideally, the background check would only reveal past dates of employment, job title, and nothing else. Would that be the case?
