A month wait for a root canal

Hi! I recently just went to the dentist and was told I have a crack in my tooth and I would need a root canal, but i have a month away until the appointment. And it’s a sensitivity pain, like when I breathe in the cold feels like it’s smacking my nerves lol. I was just wondering if I’ll get an infection from the amount of time I’ll have to wait? And is there a way to relieve this sensitivity temporarily?
