some stats to be aware of...
TL;DR: shocking statistics, but also need help finding resources
Does anyone know of any resources for DV victims in California and New Mexico?
I work in an environment where sexual violence and DV survivors are a part of our focus. I've been learning more about sexual violence and partner-related domestic violence statistics in the U.S. Here are some stats that caught my eye:
- Nearly 1 in 4 woman and in 1 in 9 men have experienced severe intimate partner violence in the U.S. (source: CDC)
- An estimate 50% of DV victims are unable to safely make a phone call during an emergency (source: Tech Safety)
- Every minute, 20 people experience physical abuse by an intimate partner in the U.S. (source: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
These statistics are quite jarring, but I think it also reveals that you are not alone in this fight. It's reassuring to know that we are a community of people who share similar experiences; it's truly heartwarming.
Stay safe out there and know that help and support is available.
