(Xbox) when I test my mic it works but when I get into a game no one can hear me and the little voice icon on the side of the screen doesn't pop up

I know I'm not banned from it I've never used voice nor text chat before and I've watched a bunch of videos to make sure I have my settings right but im still not able to talk to anyone any help is appreciated thanks
