Will CIO work to eliminate small night feed?
Looking for advice on whether CIO will work to get our LO to drop his last, small night feed.
Our LO is 15 weeks old. Since 7 weeks, he's woken for one night feed 6-8 hours after bedtime (around 3 - 5 AM). That feed has naturally decreased to ~12 minutes currently. Based on a weighted feed I did with an LC, he's probably only getting 1 - 1.5oz, so I think he's waking partially because he's hungry but maybe mostly out of habit. My cue to put him back to bed is when he falls asleep nursing - half the time he stays asleep, and the other half he wakes up and cries but settles himself back to sleep after 5-10 minutes.
For a few nights I tried decreasing the nursing time a bit each night to wean him slowly, but he either ended up REALLY crying when I put him back into the bassinet and not settling, or waking up an hour later hungry again. I've also tried giving him a pacifier rather than nursing when he wakes up at his feeding time, but that didn't settle him at all. (Note that a pacifier does actually work to get him back to sleep if he wakes up at a time that's not his typical feeding time). TBH, those attempts at getting him to drop the feed were pretty half-assed, since his feed is so short that it's much easier to nurse him back to sleep than to try to settle him another way.
Anyway, for a variety of reasons we're ready for him to drop his night feed, and we'd love to do it quickly and with a method that doesn't require us to be in and out of his room all night. I think(?) night weaning and sleep training are slightly different things, but would love any advice on whether just letting him CIO when he wakes up at his normal night feeding time would help him drop that habit and sleep through to the morning.
