Premature Ovarian Insufficiency x 20 years, new ovarian cyst
Hi friends, recently joined this group because I have an ovarian cyst. It started off as just under 2 cm and inside of a year, it has grown to 3.8 cm.
It’s on my left side, which unfortunately, is also where I have a spot of diverticulosis and an old low back injury. So I never know exactly what is causing pain in that area.
Like many of you have been dismissed by pretty much everyone when it comes to the level of pain I have. Anybody who treats me for the back pain (GP, physio, rehab Dr) provides all they can and then tells me to check it out with my gastroenterologist. I go to my gastroenterologist and they tell me to go to my gynaecologist… who tells me to go to Physio and check with my gastroenterologist. It’s a vicious cycle.
The additional layer to all of this … I’m currently 52 years old and have been on hormone replacement therapy since I was 32 years old because at that age, it was discovered I had premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). At the time they called it premature ovarian failure, but the name has since changed thankfully because it’s not a “failure”.
What I’m hoping to find from this group is anyone else who also has POI, is now around the “typical menopause age”, and also has an ovarian cyst. I can’t possibly be the only one in the universe? There’s gotta be somebody else out there. If there is somebody (or maybe more than one person) I have so many questions…
