Second Chances

I was a big believer in second chances. Not third chances. But good people make bad decisions, everyone fucks up now and then. It's worth it to forgive.

As I look back on my life though, every single person I tried to end a relationship with, but gave a second chance to, ended up doing the exact same thing again a year or two later and I ended the relationship anyways. I don't have any examples of someone that fucked up once, I forgave them, then they remained a positive presence in my life. Everyone that is still in my life, is someone that never crossed a deal breaking boundary.

Does this mean that anyone that requires that initial forgiveness is actually signalling they can't be trusted? And I just got manipulated into forgiving them once? I don't want this to be the case but it's hard to unsee it now.
