Fake friend

So I’m having to come to terms with the fact that the people pleasing, nice and “kind” best friend that I had in my life for 10 years, was fake all along.

Not just fake, but extremely dangerous and manipulative. I had to find out the hard way and waaaay too late unfortunately.

A few years back, she went out of her way to destroy my relationship with someone who truly loved me. She tried to do the same thing to another close friend’s marriage. She refused to attend our engagement parties or weddings.

And it was all under the mask of “protecting us” when it was plain and simple sabotage. But at the time I was too blind to see it. I wasn’t happy with the way she went about things but I always thought her heart was in the right place. Because of the way she played victim all the damn time.

The thing about her is, she had lied and deceived her parents for over a decade about her relationship with her now husband. Till this day, her parents don’t know her husband’s full identity or history with her. She’s now living in misery that one day they may find out the truth about who he really is. She had to go to therapy, and I think now it was partially because she couldn’t accept that our other friend got happily married whilst she has to “suffer”.

Anyway, that’s beside the point, but just gives a bit of context to her manipulations and jealousy motives.

I was naive enough to think that yeah she may have lied to her parents, but surely she can’t be a cunning person to me, her best friend. The one who stuck by her through thick and thin. Who supported her all through her struggles. Sigh, I was so gullible and too loyal for my own good. 😓

The two years after I ended my last relationship mostly due to her interference in the early stages, I saw a side to her that I didn’t like at all. She had absolutely zero empathy for the less fortunate and victims of abuse. The real her under that mask came out, but very subtly, and it was terrifying to unravel the truths. She would back real life villains from the reality shows we were watching and be angry at the ones that were being bullied. I was so stunned that I never saw this side to her before.

And now? Im hurt. Angry. Lost to why out of all friends I had, she was the one I grew closest to. I felt at times that she wasn’t authentic but ignored that feeling. a lot. Until I couldn’t. And now even the thought of speaking to her made me sick.

So yeah. Now my trust in people is kind of shattered. And she knows where I stand with her. I confronted her. She denied, tried to twist it back on me and then fucked off.
