High bilirubin - Advice needed🙏
About me:
- 18 years old male
- Diagnosed with both Gilbert Syndrome & Hereditary Spherocytosis
- In my last blood test, my bilirubin was at around 100 μmol/L or 5,85 mg/dL depending on how you measure.
I have for about 2 years been struggling with jaundice and fatigue due to my mainly Gilbert Syndrome but I think also HS. I have ever since been in contact with different doctors, including a “Gilbert Syndrome expert”, and none have been helpful for me.. All they told me was that the only option to relieve the symptoms was through a Splenectomy (spleen removal) I’d like to avoid doing a splenectomy, and would rather try different options if there are any.
As of right now I have tried taking Calcium-d-Glucarate and Taurine, as well as drinking kombucha, chamomile-tea and eating some tumeric. Not sure of how much any of those helped, perhaps some may have helped but I have unfortunately not taking them so regularly.
I have read from like a thousand different sources, including many from this subreddit, on different ways of relieving the symptoms but it is quite overwhelming and I can’t really try all of the methods. Therefore I am wondering if any of you can tell me what has helped you, maybe also your experiences with splenectomy if you have. I am thankful for all response!😅
———————————————————————— Extra info
What has helped me:
- Lots of water
- Lots of fibres
Things that I found strange😅:
- Alcohol doesn’t increase my bilirubin from what I’ve noticed (ex. Waking up next day after drinking alcohol with no more yellow in the eyes than yesterday)
- I get tired of too much sun/light and finds that it increases the yellow in my eyes (perhaps it is just more visible in the sun, and doesn’t actually increase)
