Is there risk to allowing my indoor cats to play in grass? (supervised)

I have two indoor cats who are both comfortable wearing harnesses, but get too spooked to walk around the neighborhood. I was thinking it could be fun to take them to a quiet park nearby and let them check out the grass, but I don't know how worried I should be about ticks and the like. I live in Southern California, for context.
