I filed for a federal payment plan weeks ago when I filed my taxes and I’ve yet to hear back. I can’t make any payment on my taxes right now so what should I do?

Not sure what to do as I currently owe over 5k in federal taxes from last year and I’m unable to pay, I filed for a payment plan and I’ve yet to hear anything. Will I be penalized at all?
