AIO? my sister keeps being weird/rude to me.
Recently i’ve been noticing my sister being slightly ruder than usual to me, especially in front of other people. she tells me to shut up a lot on the rare occasion i start talking, or that ‘no-one asked’. today, after the gym, we went to buy drinks. we were going to share, so she handed me the drink and her card, and told me to go pay, well, she asked, but she had already held out the stuff for me, like she expected me to say yes. i told her she was being a little immature and had to learn to be a little more independent, and handed her stuff back (she does this kind of thing a lot—expecting me to do all the talking when we go out to buy things, or ask for help or complain to staff. i don’t mind much, but it’s getting a little tiring). after, she kept just snatching the drink back from me mid-sip, telling me to not ‘chug’ it. i admittedly do drink quite a lot, quite fast, but i try not to when sharing. it’s just kind of an unconscious habit. sometimes i do drink what i actually feel like drinking when she lets me have a little of her own drink, but i do try not to go too far.
at dinner, i was just casually mentioning things i did that day. i don’t talk much anyway, i’m quite introverted, so when i do speak i like to get out what i can. she promptly interrupted me with a ‘no-one asked.’ and repeatedly called me a big-back (someone greedy), even after i pretty much ate the same as everyone else, possibly less (i try not to have too much in case someone else wants some). and i mentioned going to my friend’s house, she’s a really sweet person and we sometimes joke about being a couple because i’m bisexual and she’s bisexual and demisexual (Demisexuality is a sexual orientation where individuals experience sexual attraction only after forming a strong emotional connection with someone, like for instance a friend), and she suddenly just said (in front of our dad, and two of our cousins) ‘shut up about your date.’ i immediately asked her to stop, because i don’t like when she assumes things like that. she can occasionally be a little unknowingly homophobic, but it’s usually joking. the whole meal she was being subtly rude/mean, but in her usual joking manner.
later, i was trying different hairstyles, possibly to eventually wear out, maybe in the following week. i found one i liked so i went into her room to ask her thoughts. she said it was ‘zesty’ (a word she uses to describe vaguely weird or sometimes things, people, or people’s actions that seem gay to her, keep in mind usually in a joking manner and that i think she just used it to mean weird) and didn’t show off my jawline. i quite liked it, so i told her it was cute. and then she brought my crush into it: ‘What would (his name) think? He’d think you looked ugly. and you don’t want to look ugly, do you?’ spoiler, i didn’t care what he really thought, and her comments seemed like they were about to start getting a little insulting, so i left.
i’m just confused. i don’t know if this is some sort of abuse or just her being herself, or it’s kind of included in the sibling rivalry type thing. she’s usually very blunt anyway, so i’m not sure.
