Want to build a scythe

Hello! So I want to build a scythe from FFXIV. Not entirely sure which one yet but leaning towards the picture attached. I've had issues before with stability for my props. I'm wondering what would provide the best stability and base support? I was thinking a PVC pipe since I can heat and shape it.
