Pirate Yakuza misunderstood what made past games fun
I know this been talked about to death but man this games pacing ruined the little story there already was.
Yakuza games were always known for having a nice balance of serious crime drama and wacky side content. You could always play the game how you wanted and could either go full side content or just go straight to the story. Everyone could decide for himself what he wanted at a time.
But man side content being shoved down your throat really got me the wrong way. I mean sure we’re used to long tutorial sequences in the other games (for example like Dodonko island which takes like half an hour) but man you can’t play Pirate Yakuzas story for 1 hour before you have to do another fetch quest or a random minigame. I don’t know it felt so unnatural and there were times I just wanted to continue the story. I found it hilarious how at the beginning they said „Saejima comes tomorrow“ but then the games makes you go everywhere for a few days straight.
