I’ve played a LOT of cozy games on Switch - what to play next?
Looking for recommendations to play next either off my TBP list or something new! Please forgive the formatting as I’m on mobile.
Here is a list (in no order) of my top 10 cozy games I’ve played on Switch.
-
Wyldeflowers - 9.5/10 Pros: Amazing storyline, full voice acting, witchy, nature immersive, farming, romanceable characters, very low stakes, LGBT+ characters, unlockable achievements Cons: low character customization (majority becomes an option after storyline is complete), repetitive exploration
-
Unpacking - 9.5/10 Pros: adorable but subtle storyline, different placement mode options, calming, beautiful soundtrack, comforting, creates feelings of nostalgia, LGBT+ characters, straightforward gameplay Cons: repetitive gameplay, cannot find a physical Switch copy for the life of me
-
New Pokémon Snap - 9/10 Pros: never-ending gameplay (haven’t finished), unlockable achievements, intuition-based puzzles, straightforward gameplay, beautiful graphics Cons: no character customization, can feel repetitive, no slice-of-life gameplay
-
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 9/10 Pros: insane amount of customization, Happy Homes DLC, unique characters, expansive exploration, farming, collecting Cons: short storyline, feel like I’ve done what I wanted to accomplish after museum was done
-
Cult of the Lamb - 10/10 Pros: difficulty adjustments, adorable characters, spooky, combat focused, customizable creatures, choose-your-own-path, amazing soundtrack Cons: N/A
6: Strange Horticulture - 9.5/10 Pros: spooky, witchy, there’s a cat!!, plants, puzzle-based progression, interesting storyline, different endings Cons: sometimes hard to read, wish for more replay options
7: The Wild at Heart (currently playing, pending rating) Pros: adorable characters, interesting storyline, spooky, puzzle-solving progression, beautiful art Cons: not talked about enough on this subreddit IMO
8: LOZ: BOTW - 10/10 Pros: beautiful story, beautiful gameplay, beautiful music, replayed many times, infinite exploration, puzzles Cons: English-speaking Zelda’s British accent
9: Spiritfarer - 8.5/10 Pros: lovely story, stellar soundtrack, there’s a cat!!, comforting, well-written characters, LGBT+ characters, heartfelt, spooky Cons: too many fetch quests, cared for some characters more than others, abrupt ending
10: Luigi’s Mansion 3 - 9.5/10 Pros: spooky, puzzle-based progression, fun characters, beautiful graphics Cons: there’s one section I hate but otherwise it was 10/10
Honourable mentions: HP Lego, Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon games, Pokémon Games, Pikmin 3, Subnautica, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, What Remains of Edith Finch, Beacon Pines, Untitled Goosegame, It Takes Two
Games I own but haven’t played:
- Bugsnax
- I was a Teenage Exocolonist
- The Last Campfire
- Sticky Business
- The Gardens Between
Games I own that I’ve tried & haven’t finished/are meh:
- Potioncraft (paths are not intuitive to me)
- Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood (thought I would enjoy the card making process but it feels very finicky on the Switch)
- Disney DLV (impossibly laggy on Switch but loved it otherwise, may try again on XBOX)
- Ooblets (got sidetracked and haven’t come back to it but I like it so far)
- Children of Silenttown (got sidetracked)
- Outerwilds (need to meld my mind with my boyfriend to play this)
Games I’ve played but didn’t enjoy:
- A Little to the Left (made me anxious and puzzles were aggravating)
- Witchy Life Story (found it pretty boring, didn’t like the characters)
- Stardew Valley (too much at once, made me anxious)
- Calico (SUPER laggy on the Switch)
- Wytchwood (want to try it again, but felt like it was only fetch quests)
